The most widely deployed mobile virtualization solution
I caught up with Rob McCammon before he heads to the Multicore Expo at ESC April 26-29. Rob's presentation, "Virtualization as the Nexus of Multicore Power Management," will be at 8:00am on April 29 as part of the Virtualization track.
AD: Rob, you're headed to ESC and Multicore Expo... what will you be presenting?
RMcC: I’m going to be talking about how virtualization is an important tool for system designers and developers to consider as they are putting together their strategies for using multicore processors in their next generation products. I’ll also talk about the contribution that virtualization can make when implementing power management on multicore systems. But more generally, I’ll be talking about a variety of ways that virtualization gives a multicore system developer flexibility and more options to put together the best product when using a multicore processor.
AD: What else are you interested in learning while at the show?
RMcC: I always find getting exposed to the latest information about multicore technology to be interesting on a technical level, given my engineering background. I often think about multicore as a new and significant challenge thrust upon software developers by the physics of semiconductors. Multicore architecture exists to provide a path forward in terms of building processors that offer more and more computing capacity within a reasonable power budget. There is no escaping the fact that the need to adopt multicore architecture for power consumption reasons creates challenges for software developers. Every year there are a lot of interesting developments, technology, approaches summarized by the Multicore Expo.
