September 11, 2009

Who: Open Kernel Labs; Gernot Heiser
What: ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles
When: October 11-14, 2009

Gernot Heiser's technical paper “seL4: Formal verification of an OS kernel,” will be presentent at the twenty-second ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles (SOSP). This paper describes the ground-breaking proof of functional correctness of the NICTA and OK Labs seL4 microkernel.

SOSP, which is the top venue for publication of OS work, and one of the most prestigious in all of computer science, will be held in Big Sky, Montana, from October 11 to 14. Heiser will also present the paper “Automatic device driver synthesis with Termite,” which he co-authored, describing a revolutionary approach to device-driver generation that ensures driver correctness by construction and has the potential to completely remove the dominant source of bugs from operating systems.

The ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles (SOSP) is a conference that brings together developers and researchers from academia and industry to advance the science and technology in operating systems. The conference is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Operating Systems (SIGOPS). It has been held once every two years since 1967, when the first SOSP conference took place in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
