What: "Design a Better Featurephone by Virtualizing Linux on a Single ARM Core", By Abi Nourai, Open Kernel Labs
When: November 20, 2008 at 5:20PM
Where: ARM European Technical Conference, CAP 15 Conference Center -Paris, France
Abi Nourai will describe the benefits of incorporating a rich application OS into mobile phone design.
Virtualization technology, like that provided by OKL4 allows multiple operating systems to coexists safely on a single ARM core. This enables a single processor solution to support both a baseband stack and user applications with operating systems best suited to these different domains. Virtualization is also an excellent tool for reusing legacy software "as is" rather than porting it to a new operating system in order to use it in a new product. By providing device security and reliability benefits that exceed those offered by virtualization technology alone, OKL4 further magnifies the benefits of hypervisor use in Linux-enabled mobile phone development.
Slides will be available after the presentation.
ARM designs the technology that lies at the heart of advanced digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices. ARM’s comprehensive product offering includes 32-bit RISC microprocessors, graphics processors, enabling software, cell libraries, embedded memories, high-speed connectivity products, peripherals and development tools. Combined with comprehensive design services, training, support and maintenance, and the company’s broad Partner community, they provide a total system solution that offers a fast, reliable path to market for leading electronics companies.
